SHANI DARDEN & ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY

SHANI DARDEN & ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY

FADE IN:

EXT. PRIVATE RESIDENCE, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – MORNING

Sunlight bathes the lush backyard that abuts a shaded outdoor living room of a home tucked away in the Hollywood Hills. SHANI DARDEN and ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY enter, and sit opposite each other at either end of a cushioned wood bench.

ROSIE
We met about three years ago, when you were nine months pregnant.

SHANI
Two days before I had my daughter, Lennon. I was super, super huge.

ROSIE
I had seen nearly every esthetician in Los Angeles before the makeup artist, Monika Blunder, recommended you. We hit it off right away. It was love at first sight.

SHANI
We got along really well, but you don’t let just anyone in like that.

ROSIE
I’m sweet with the people I love. I take care of them. But there aren’t a lot of those people. You should be very, very proud [laughs].

SHANI
You are the sweetest person; I think kind people also happen to be the most beautiful.

ROSIE
For women I think it can go both ways: if you look good, you feel good; or, if you feel good, you look good. We spend so much time working out, eating well, and wearing the right clothes that sometimes we forget about improving our minds and our inner selves. That said, I believe it’s important to look the best you can. Sure, it’s a luxury to have time and money to spend on your appearance, but I’ve never heard a girlfriend say doing that doesn’t make her feel better. And I support doing whatever it takes to make yourself feel good.

SHANI
Confidence and self-esteem are so important.

ROSIE
Which is why I believe in investing in the best skin care you can afford. A lot of people don’t know this, but I’m not someone who has perfect skin all the time. I have to be really diligent. You have a no nonsense attitude towards skin that I really like. It’s drama-free, there’s no hocus-pocus. As a client, I want the skin of whomever I’m working with. When I saw yours I realized you know what you’re talking about.

SHANI
I was obsessed with skin as a little girl. I remember making masks in middle school. I’ve worked as an esthetician for about eleven years, and before that —

ROSIE
You were a music video ho [ROSIE and SHANI laugh].

SHANI
I was! I started as a video ho, but after that I wanted to get into skincare, so I worked at a bunch of spas, went to school, and then did an apprenticeship program. It was while working at a doctor’s office doing house calls when someone suggested I open my own business.

ROSIE
There’s an intimacy coming to see you at your home. I’ll walk in and see your kids, whom I adore, your nanny, whom I love to bits, and your husband, who is the greatest guy. Sometimes we’ll have a glass of wine afterwards. You have a real connection with everyone that enters your house.

SHANI
I’m very lucky to have clients, like you, who always tell others about me. My business has grown a lot from word of mouth.

ROSIE
Once you got your foot in the door with a few people, it sort of snowballed from there. You have some really loyal girls. And boys!

SHANI
Boys, not so much. I see husbands whose wives force them to come [laughs].

ROSIE
I love getting facials by myself too much to ever let anyone else come [laughs]. One thing you’ve taught me is how important it is to wear sun cream. I love to lie in the sun, but I’ve learned to limit myself to just eight times a week [laughs]. Kidding! My skin is like my canvas: it needs to be the best it can be in order for me to do my job. What I put on it is so important, and your Resurface retinol is a miracle product.

SHANI
I’ve always been obsessed with retinol. It’s anti-aging, and helps with acne, pigmentation, and scarring. Most of the options out there are too harsh for the skin, so I made my own. It’s really gentle.

ROSIE
Everybody’s ordering it. It’s the hero product across the world.

SHANI
Now I’m working to make a whole Resurface product line. You’ve been my guinea pig.

ROSIE
Yeah, I’ll let you test products on me. Watching the whole development process has really been a dream. I love seeing how everything comes together. And you have such an attention to detail. You’re a perfectionist.

SHANI
It’s hard, because once I had one great product, I knew everything else had to be equally as great. On top of that, there are many brands I already use and love, so anything I create has to be better than those, too.

ROSIE
Well, the retinol works. I mean, look at your skin. No one would know you’re really 100 years old. But then again, I’m really 85 [ROSIE and SHANI laugh].

SHANI
I guess we have to admit it. The truth would come out eventually.
