“I started Madbury Club in my Rutgers dorm room in 2010 with a couple friends. We didn’t want people to know it was founded by a bunch of college kids, so we referenced the encyclopedia for an Old English-esque name that sounded serious. At first, Madbury was an online music magazine, but it’s currently a creative studio — we change the company’s focus whenever we get bored of whatever it is we’re doing. We never want to define Madbury, though, because once we have, the fun of it is over.

I found this warehouse on Craigslist a few years ago when I was living in Los Angeles. It was brand new, and completely empty from top to bottom. The team had never had so much space before — we had previously worked out of an office in an old leather factory, someone’s parents’ guest room, an East Village apartment — so, we built it out to suit our needs.

This area is the brain center of everything going on at Madbury Club, where people plug in their hours. The desks are always filled and the computers are always running. Tone, our photographer, designed and built these desks — he was into wood cabins at the time, hence the vibe. In hindsight, it’s pretty funny how we have all this space, but put ourselves
in these little cubby holes.

There’s so much random shit on and around our desks,
with no rhyme or reason.”

“My team and I have a fascination with neon signs. This one used to say ‘The Madbury Club,’ but a couple basketballs did away with the rest of it when it lived downstairs. Tone mounted the remaining pieces on some wood and brought the sign upstairs to save it.”

“NORTH FACE is one of my favorite brands, and DOUG TOMPKINS, the founder, is a total badass. The hat is a bootleg, but nicely done.”

“Fake plants are wonderful. Every time Madbury has a job, we try to incorporate them into the set design. Real plants look so good at first, but just don’t pan out — they end up dying.”

“With the exception of the Nom Wah Tea Parlor hat, this is my collection of vintage VUARNET hats. They’re the best hats in the world, and on display until we find something better to go there.”

“The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figurines — Hawaiian Michelangelo, and underwater Dante — are sick. I’ve had them since I was 6 years old.”

“This is BENJAMIN B. TROLL, dipped in the finest garments: Off-Beige jeans and a Been Troll shirt. Two years ago, Ben hosted a video Madbury made for Native Shoes that was
shot in Hong Kong. Now, he just kicks it,
and hangs out with us.”

“This is one of my Nike Air Force 180 sneakers — a super chunky, high-top basketball shoe — from high school. It’s a classic, and was released in the ‘90s, which, to me, is the best era of Nike design. The shoe is falling apart, so now it holds fake plants.”

“I made this little claymation Fetty Wap during my short
lived claymation experiment that lasted two weeks.
There’s been rumblings of it coming back.”

“I just love patches. When I was younger, I was always stealing them from my dad, and a lot of these are his. I have boy scout patches, soccer patches, designer patches, a ‘Happiness is a campfire’ patch.
I want to do a Madbury Adventure Pack of patches.”

“The bow and arrow target is indicative of how much random junk gets collected here. I’m sure it was used as a prop for a shoot at some point, but who even knows.”
