I’m not a fashion person, but I play one on TV, as Younger’s Lauren. When I got the part, I researched the industry heavily — my character is a fashion publicist — but it’s still very foreign to me.

In February 2016, I was invited to the Vivienne Tam Fall/Winter 2016 show at Moynihan Station during New York Fashion Week, and didn’t know what to expect. I’d only ever seen fashion shows on the pages of magazines.

So, on the day of the show, I was a little spooked, and couldn’t help but think it was weird that I had been invited. Once I took my front row seat, though, I felt at ease and had so much fun!

The venue was peaceful, the collection was beautiful, and I loved watching the ethereal models walk the runway.

Then it was over in the blink of an eye, and I went backstage to see the collection up close.

Attending Fashion Week was such a good experience for me as an actress. It served as a great research tool for Lauren, and even informed how I went into costume fittings.

And, my perspective of the industry completely changed.
