Hairstylist Bridget Brager on discovering her mane passion — seen here on Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka — at 13,000 feet.

I started dating my now husband, Michael, in 2005, while I was preparing to apply to dental school.

He’s a model and has traveled the world for work, but back then, I didn’t quite understand what he did — and honestly thought it was pretty silly.

Three months into dating, Michael asked me to join him on the set of an Izod job in Utah. I had no idea what ‘on set’ meant — I was so naive — but I said yes.

When I arrived, the New York-based crew drove me to the location: the summit of the state’s tallest mountain.

The setting was so glamorous, and while Michael modeled, I sat back with the hair and makeup teams. I was really impressed [watching everything happen], and thought,

‘How do people do this as a career?’

At one point, a helicopter appeared and flew everyone to the peak to continue shooting.

Afterward, I thought I would never have an experience like that again.

A month later, Michael’s billboards and print advertisements came out. That’s when I saw the whole artistic vision come alive — and when decided I wanted to do hair.
